The Falkland Arms ticks almost all the boxes for a classic Cotswold village pub: honey-coloured stone, stonefloors, inglenook fireplace, wooden panelling … The garden is the place to sit and relax in after an amble around Great Tew itself. Come here on a Sunday evening for the live folk sessions. You'll find one of three regular acts keeping the customers happy.
Signature fare
Lunches: ploughman's, chicken and thyme casserole, baked fillet of cod. Dinners: lamb shanks, chicken breasts in Oxford blue cheese sauce (£15). Beers from Wadworth's of Devizes, including the much-loved 6X, plus three guests and Weston's cider.

The Falkland Arms gets its name from Lucius Cary, second Viscount Falkland, who inherited the Great Tew estate in 1625, and who died at the battle of Newbury in 1643 aged 33.
